CARS AND TCARS PICNIC

image_pdfimage_print

Members from CARS and TCARS joined together for a fabulous picnic at Utica Park, also joining were the Lodi and Amador clubs. A wide variety of food was enjoyed by all, it makes a fine change to have an eyeball to eyeball QSO. Thanks go to Steve Airola and Charles Farr our chefs on the barbecue, even our section manager John Litz gave his seal of approval. Is it possible to do this next year?

California Shake-Out October 20th, Tuolumne TCARS

image_pdfimage_print
California Shakeout Emergency Drill UPDATEDTHURSDAY OCT 20, 2022 12:30 PM
You can participate in a special annual emergency net with organizations across California.  TCARES and TC Office of Emergency Services are planning an emergency NET to demonstrate the TCARES repeater infrastructure during a simulated communications outage following a simulated major earthquake incident.

We are looking for MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION!

Our goal is to see check-ins from Pinecrest to Jamestown, from Mariposa to Angels Camp, and from Modesto to Yosemite National Park! (AND ALL POINTS IN-BETWEEN)

WORKING on that day? This net will be during the lunch hour on purpose, for those at a work place to be able to go out to your car and check-in from your workplace, to the degree that is possible for you.

CONCISE checkins. We are looking for rapid efficient check-ins using the structure below. After the net is over, general chit-chat may resume.

DRAFT CHECK-IN format.
It will be a directed net, but we will not have a roll call. We will request check-ins by Alphabet Sequence Groups, based on your Suffix. (First letter after the number in your callsign.)
ALPHA – GOLF, HOTEL – NOVEMBER, OSCAR – ZULU

When you check-in, provide the following:
YOUR CALL SIGN
YOUR FIRST NAME
YOUR LOCATION
(neighborhood, town, place name)
GRID POWER status, ON/OFF
AREA DAMAGE REPORT
 (none, broken windows, impassable road/bridge)
Sample: This is K6NED, Ned, Phoenix Lake, Power OUT, no damage to report.

COPY MESSAGE: After we complete the checkins, The County OES coordinator will hand over an official statement regarding facts about the incident, the response by agencies, instructions regarding evacuation plans or resource centers available –  to be read out on the air. Please have pen and paper ready to copy down the statement and be ready to share in your local area as you see fit. (in the event of a real emergency) Share over GMRS/FRS, in person, etc. Don’t forget… THIS IS A DRILL… (repeat as needed)

NOTABLE LANDMARKS: One goal we have is hear check-ins from key facilities. Examples include:
HOSPITAL
COLLEGE
AIRPORTS
FIRE STATION
FAIR GROUNDS
UTILITIES FACILITY, ETC, ETC.
PLUS each Neighborhood (EAST SONORA, CRYSTAL FALLS, CEDAR RIDGE, RAW HIDE, MI-WUK, LONG BARN, GROVELAND etc, etc)

FINALLY, we will end with a simulated a “Repeater Down” scenario and have a quick SIMPLEX Net on 147.510

NET CONROL will be K6NED and will be conducted from the County Emergency Operations Center on Striker Ct.

California Shake-Out

image_pdfimage_print
October 20th 2022

As part of the Great California Shake-Out, Club members and ARES Members will be included
along with other Disaster Health Volunteers in a county-wide drill for the Great California Shake
Out.
More information from our San Joaquin County Emergency Coordinator Bob N6TCE.
A SET is short for Simulated Emergency Training.
On October 20th at 10:20 AM is the Great California Shake-Out. The Shake-Out takes place to generate
Earthquake Awareness and disaster preparedness. Unfortunately, we do live in an area where large quakes
do happen. They can be as devastating to our communities as any hurricane or tornado.
The Net Control Station will start a controlled net on either the Stockton (147.165.0 + offset PL107.2) or
the Lodi (147.090 + offset PL 114.8) repeater. We will be using two repeaters for the event. More details
will follow at the W6SF Club Meeting and on the ARES Tuesday night Nets.
The Net Control Station (NTS) will start by formally opening the net with the words: “This is an
Exercise.” After the initial announcement, the NCS will call for reports. Next, listen to the NCS
instructions on what should be in your reports.
There are four levels of message precedence:

  1. Emergency (Relating to the immediate protection of life or property)
  2. Priority (Partners and ARES®messages directly related to the emergency, but not as time-sensitive as
    an emergency precedence message)
  3. Health and Welfare (Inquiries or information about the whereabouts or condition of persons in the
    affected area)
  4. Routine (Messages unrelated to any emergency: birthday greetings, net activity reports, etc.)

The Net Control Station will ask for Emergency Traffic 1st. Then Priority 2nd, Welfare traffic 3rd, and
Routine 4th.
The Net Director would set up alternate frequencies in a genuine emergency and move the routine and
welfare traffic off the Main Net frequencies. However, for this SET, we will not be doing do that.
Therefore, the NCS will not take routine or welfare traffic during this exercise.

Lincoln Ca. Swap Meet

image_pdfimage_print

An early morning journey to the Lincoln swap meet was made by from left to right KN6QBY Aaron Keese, KB6USJ Michael Grcevich, W6RXK Steve Airola. With a horse trailer full of Ham equipment money was made to help fund the club, and new owners were found for the Ham gear. A great day was had for the participants as well as the bargain seekers at the swap. Thanks go out to the Western Placer Amateur Radio Club for continuing this annual event which is so successful in bringing Hams together. Will be out there next year.
