November usually means fall season and Thanksgiving.  Color of red and
gold, cool weather, leaves and fire in the fireplace are all motifs of
this season.  We, as amateur radio operators, also think of projects
that start the holiday season.  Charity events, parades and functions
that will lead to the Christmas season in December.

We also tend to socialize with potluck dinners and simple meetings of
our clubs, reminiscing the clubs accomplishments.  We also finish our
contesting and start planning for projects that we wish to accomplish
after the weather breaks.  It is the time to create committees and
install officers for the next year over good food and coffee.

We also pull up the plans to cover us through the winter season.  This
includes road and traffic nets, repeater checks, ARES training and
practice, checking your equipment and go bags and generally planning
for the worst and hoping for the best.

A couple of new items: One shows the importance of initiating the youth
to amateur radio.  The IARU has instigated an all December event that is
called YOTA (youth on the air).  Much like jamboree on the air except
you attempt to make contact with stations sporting a YOTA call sign
suffix anywhere in the world.  This should be fun as well as giving you
an opportunity to allow anyone under the age of 22 to operate and
contact those stations with third party reciprocating agreements.  Give
it a try especially if you have connections with organizations that have
younger individuals.

Your section emergency coordinator has developed a site for the
emergency coordinator’s and district emergency coordinator’s to leave
and receive information.  This can be contacted via Email to
kf6fir@kf6fir.net and registering.  Ed, KF6FIR, well then send you a
confirmation Email.  The next time you log in, you will be able to see
all that is available.

Pacificon will be returning to San Ramon in 2015 and will return to the
third weekend of October.  I am looking forward to being catered by the
facility there.  Hope to see you there.

Remember to support HR4969 and get your letter to ARRL and your
Congressional Representative. Go to the link on the ARRL website,
http://www.arrl.org/hr-4969.  We have to start now for the big push
next year.

Dan Pruitt, AE6SX
