Our Fellow Hams Helping in Paradise, CA
Hi Mark,
Tuesday/Wednesday, 11/13-14 there were 10 or 11 CCSAR members searching in Paradise. Four were also CARS members, WA6ZTY, KM6AXF, KM6AFI and AE6LA. There were nearly 400 SAR volunteers and 100 firemen assigned to our search crews. Tuesday teams were assigned by residence location of unaccounted for persons to search for clues or signs of them. Fire personnel would safety clear the home sites and we made a more detailed search through the debris. There had been previous cursory searches and sifting searches are likely after what we did.
Wednesday we checked all abandoned vehicles in our assigned areas and marked them as cleared with orange painted X or flagging tape on salvageable vehicles.
The operation was like a small army. By their using ICS principles, effective searching was accomplished. All were patient with one another doing the unaccustomed. Tyvex suits, masks, gloves and decon after aren’t fun.
CCSAR had a 3 person team there 11/16 and there is another team there now, 11/19-21.
Best regards, Ken AE6LA
