Still triple digits in the valley!  The only thing less is just 99.  My
Field Day was canceled by Fire, others were canceled by floodwaters and
by excessive heat.  Bottom line anything can happen.  For those
successful Field Day operations, I received about 6 pieces of traffic.
I’m always glad to get those.
On Museum Ship weekend I spent my time on the USS Lucid in Stockton.
They restoring the Minesweeper that was of the class built in Stockton
and used through the Vietnam era.  It was great fun and I enjoyed
operating and seeing the shiny brass improvements.
Rough week for me, a little under the weather and an ARRL Presentation
to give this week.  Looking forward to promoting ARRL and EmComm as
ARES.  Look for some changes in the near future to ARES.  Keep those EC
reports coming in.
In your own areas,  stay tuned to your local events.  They could be
planned Public Service or on call with your First Responders.  Be
prepared, go kits, batteries and personal items (medications and
hydration) .  Remember if you are in need, you are a liability during a
response.  Get with your local Emergency Coordinator and learn the lay
of the land
Remember to support “The Amateur Radio Parity Act”. Go to the link
on the ARRL website http://www.arrl.org/amateur-radio-parity-act . The
act was introduced in the Senate as S 1534.   We have to continue the
support for this legislation.

CLOVIS ARP ++   Rob AE6GE, took CARP to Pine Ridge School for Field Day.
A lot going on with the “Climb to Kaiser” bicycle event headed by
James K6JDM.  Rick, W6KKO kicked off another T-Hunt with John, K6MI, and
Eric, NI6G as the fox on July 15.  This was a nice respite after the
fireworks stand location change and the beginning of the Tour de Lakes
public service event coming up.   www.k6arp.org/

FRESNO ARC++    For the August meeting Joe, WA6FFJ, has scheduled the
program with Jim Anderson to speak on the Code Talkers service men that
were used in WWI and WWII.  The annual Picnic is on Aug 19 at WA6OIB,
Ken’s home.  A total eclipse in NA happens on Monday Aug 21.

LODI ARC ++   Bob, N6TCE, was very pleased that there was mentoring of
new hams at the event. Dennis, NJ6G, stopped at three different Field
Day locations.  He said they were all different, showing the many ways
you can participate in Field Day.   Jim, WB6BET, suggested that there
be team leaders next year for each band operated.  These team leaders
would be in charge of set up of the antenna and radio for an individual
band. August Program is about Home Solar Power, by Roger Gearhart.

LOS BANOS ARC ++  June “Frequency” talked about the 4 members showing up
in May as the Field Day committee.  This was the reason to cancel Field
Day in Los Banos.  It is obvious that some enthuziasum has to be
exhibited, 73; George, W6YD.       www.aa6lb.org

SIERRA ARC ++Field Day: Cap and Lori have again opened their home for
our effort and Mike, WA6ARA, has obtained the special event call: K6T.
We have refurbished the tower trailer with fresh paint, tires, and coax.
The tribander has been tested and is performing much better now. Plan on
participating … Field Day is always a hoot and I promise that you will
have fun! Always the fourth full weekend in June! (That would be the
24th and the 25th!)

Lisa and I ventured to San Mateo for the Bay Area Maker Faire. This is
our sixth year as “Not Your
Grandpa’s Ham Radio.” It just keeps getting better. We again showed off
the Broadband-Hamnet
mesh networking, some microwave and DFing gear, software defined radios
and the BITX40 low-cost
transceiver. My co-author, Jack Purdum W8TEE, and I are creating a set
of mods (which he presented at the same time at Hamvention for FDIM) to
add a CW mode, AGC and a speech compressor to this sideband-only QRP
rig. If you don’t know about BITX, checkout http://www.hfsigs.com. $59
shipped to the US.  www.qsl.net/wa6ybn/

SEQUOIA ARG ++  At this time, several of us are planning our Field Day
operations with our families, up at Camp Andrew Brown, a particularly
great place to camp in the mountains above Kernville (after a few miles
up into Mountain 99 and then back down the plateau to nearer
Kernville).
We have a great time; lots of camping fun, good food, great
socialization, and yes, some ham radio.

STOCKTON DELTA ARC ++ Museum ship weekend: We started setting up MSW on
Friday with several hams volunteering to put up antennas and set up
stations. This year we used the 3 element yagi, Gap Titan vertical, and
end-fed ZEP antennas. Even with some challenging setup issues, we
managed to be on the air and operating 2 stations by 4PM Friday – a
full hour before the event started. Weak propagation at times and noisy
band conditions did not curb the enthusiasm of our operators and guests.
The ship stayed busy mostly on 40M and 20M but we did get in some good
operating on 80M at night and on 15M, 30M and 17M. Our Section Manager
Dan, AE6SX joined us again this year from Fresno for the entire weekend.
John NZ6Q stayed on the boat from Friday morning through Sunday
afternoon and scored us some early morning and late night QSO points.
Sierrah KM6IJT and Brent KM6IKB got on the air on 20Meters for the first
time. Brent’s daughter Brianna also got on the air and created a nice
run of stations Saturday afternoon.   Duztynn KM6HDY was a huge help in
setting up and taking down as well as getting on the air.   Field Day:
The club members voted this year to join the Lodi Club Field and I’d
have to say the joint venture was as much successful as it was fun. Club
members also put W6SF on the air at the club operating site on DeVries
Rd. As of publication I have not heard final scores on that effort. Here
are pictures club members sent to the newsletter from their Field Day
activities and Jim Sieferling, WB6BET’s Field Day Report. We had a
great Field Day this year, in spite of the predicted marginal HF
propagation. The final attendance count was 43. Thank you to all that
participated in any aspect of our field day operation. Craig and Matthew
Thompson were great hosts for field day. Thank you Jason for manning the
“DeLorean”, grilling the sausages, and Emilia for arranging all
food. We had 17 operators in the log data file. Congratulations to John
Litz on being top dog, with 90 contacts. Mike Zane followed closely with
78 contacts. (editor’s note: CW CW CW – an empty station and wide
open 40M CW band made the difference  www.w6sf.org

TULARE Co. ARC ++  Hopefully Tulare Co. ARC and Porterville will sponsor
the Rally in the Valley, this year.  This will be at the close of the
National Tribal Emergency Conference.  www.tcarc.net/

TURLOC       ARC ++  Buck Rock Repeater is alive and well, as of 3:00 PM
6-21-2017 thanks to AT&T Tech David Lee… For those of you have
forgotten Buck Rock is located in Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Park
area on a dirt and sometimes impassable road just north of Horse
Corral… That means, folks it’s a good three hour oneway-trip from
Atwater.  Field Day For the 1st time in the memory of most, TARC
cancelled field day… The traditional site on the Schmidt Ranch under
the shade trees with picnic tables was in an array of mud and debris due
to the receding waters of the San Joaquin river… With the abundance of
snow melt this lower section of the site has been under water and just
began to recede… In that the area was not conducive to occupation the
decision to hold field day on the upper shelf of the embankment was
decided… However with the extreme heat and the lack of shade it was
determined, I might say, wisely, to forego Field Day as such.  DMR
Thanks to Sam (K6ACR), former owner of Aircall Communications, TARC is
now the proud owner of four new DMR repeaters, A UHF on Mt. Oso, another
UHF in downtown Turlock and two, one VHF and one UHF on Mt. Bullion. We
wish to thank Sam for this most generous gesture… This network of DMR
repeaters will be a welcomed addition to the W6BXN repeater system.
