I am still attempting to catch up and getting closer! I have a new
computer and most of my address books are reasonably untangled.
At the time of this writing, Dayton Hamvention should be complete.
They had a lot to discuss. This included new band plans, FCC
shrinkage, Public Service Communications and consolidation of component
manufacturers and distributors. All are concerns to the Ham radio
operator. However we have little affect on the resolution of these
things, other than giving our honest opinions.
What we do best and most enjoy is operating! This part of the year
offers the most contests, best conditions and a variety of special
events. I look forward each year for these opportunities and rue those
I am unable to join. Stay informed. There are many contest sites.
Recurring special events are well published. Some are passed on by
regular Net QSTs. Join in them. There are Museum Ship Weekend, IOTA
and SOTA contests. Scouting Jamboree On The Air (JOTA). Don't forget
Field Day! If your Club cannot participate, join a nearby club. They
will have a spot for you.
This is the Ham Radio Hobby, have fun. Go operate, chew the rag, and
test that equipment.
Remember to support HR-1301 and get your letter to ARRL and your
Congressional Representative. Go to the link on the ARRL website:
www.arrl.org/hr-1301. We have 55 sponsors. We need many more. Follow
the above link and follow the instructions.

AMATEUR RADIO CLUBS
CLOVIS ARP ++ The Lodi ARC is sponsoring a website for the area's VHF
UHF contest enthusiast. It's called the "Nor Cal" vhf uhf contest page
and the URL is www.n6sjv.org. Continuing with their event schedule the
California Classic Bicycle Event is 16 May and T-Hunt on 23 May.
www.k6arp.org/
FRESNO ARC++ N6HEW, Glen's ARES/RACES report noted, “It is with
great sorrow I bring the news of the passing of Edward Plummer Jr.
(KB6LBS). Ed authored the original RACES Plan and was first Assistant
RACES Officer in Fresno Co. SKIP also offers great pictures of Hams at
a local Swap meet and open house at Red Monkey, one of the local Ham
outlets. The Pres. Stu, WB6VRJ, had this advice for the club, “Yes,
that is part of the ARRL code-to be courteous and friendly. I know
that all of you club members are just that and more. ”In April Joe,
WA6FFJ, gave a talk on Western Public Service (WPSS); history and
procedures. Then Rob, AE6GE described an emergency call he handled.
It was discussed by the group, especially, the failing of the reporting
person giving inadequate and misleading information. He then left the
scene! The need to get as much information before instigating the call
was key to conveying the traffic calmly and accurately. www.w6to.com
LODI ARC ++ Jim WB6BET, club Sec., reported program was “Show and
Tell”. Everyone brought something. The items ranged from old QSL
cards to a 6 – 20 Meter Antenna brought by himself. For the SJV
contest enthusiast, Lodi is sponsoring the "Nor Cal" VHF UHF contest
page at www.n6sjv.org. lodiamateurradioclub.org/
LOS BANOS ARC ++ April sported a visit from Steve Adams, AD6HP and the
Merced County Sheriff. Also pictures of the "After Party" to the Fox
Hunt. May meeting talked about ARES. Parade setup discussion.
www.aa6lb.org
SIERRA ARC ++ Cap, WX1WIZ, has stepped up to be our Field Day
coordinator. Looks like it’ll tentatively be held at Kennedy
Meadows. April 25 was the annual BARC and SARC in the Lone Pine Park.
Mike, WA6ARA reported on the communications for the 20 Mule Team
Endurance Horse ride. Dennis W6DQ talked about the recovery of a
Collins 821A-1 250 KW transmitter from the Voice of America site in
Delano (DL-8). Aprils meeting was highlighted by Dennis W6DQ,
concerning EME using Cal Tech’s dish near Lone Pine. May’s program
will be about T-Hunts. www.qsl.net/wa6ybn/
SEQUOIA ARG ++ March issue announces The FCC has issued a Notice of
Unlicensed Operation to Martin K. Elliott of Inyokern, California for
operating an unlicensed radio transmitter. That is closer to the
Sierra Club but not too far away. ARRL asks members to comment on
draft HF band plan proposals. NO more printed amateur radio licenses
being issued by FCC. www.n6krv.org
STOCKTON DELTA ARC ++ HOW DO YOU USE REPEATERS? Is a great article in
the March Flysheet. Then May offers “How to do that HF Thing”
reminding us of the Amateur's Code. Just the best advice for all Hams.
Finally the DX Code and Proper Phonetics round out good operating
techniques. There is also the highlights of all the public events;
Bicycle Rides, March of Dimes etc. www.w6sf.org
TURLOCK ARC ++ May ArcOver announces Grady, K6IXA, will be presenting a
program on Winlink. Very appropriate since his recognition as steadfast
sysop. Also much discussion regarding Field Day. www.w6bxn.org.
The following Amateurs became Silent Keys since the last report: Peter
W6QEU, Harold N6KDJ, Elvin N6SJR, Jack KD6MRF, and David WA6WLJ.
They will be missed.
