I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the fact that I just went

through some rough times that resulted in a stay in Hospital. For this

please forgive me for doing a little catch up. For the most part I will

discuss January events and such however I may digress into 2014.

We are reminded of 2014’s Fire season and although we are getting some

moisture, I fear it is only enough to grow good tinder. If we are so

lucky as to get more rain, the result could be flooding and threats to

our antiquated levee system. This would be an assault on the urban

community. Please prepare yourselves by networking with your local

ARES/RACES and/or the agency of your choice. All are important. All

will be better equipped by training with the local response agencies.

Stay up to date. Practice with the Charity events. Take the free

online basic FEMA Independent Study Courses 100, 200, 700, & 802. I

also Highly recommend the ARRL EC-001 course. If for no other reason

than to learn how to speak Acronym.

,

January was a fun Month for operating. DX peditions to the Southern

hemispheres, Winter Field Day, Straight Key night and contests.

February will continue with more of the same. Please let me know of

your exploits. Use a radiogram and NTS and drop me a note about what

you do in Ham Radio!

Remember to support HR4969 and get your letter to ARRL and your

Congressional Representative. Go to the link on the ARRL website

http://www.arrl.org/hr-4969 . We have to start now for the big push

next year.

CLUBS

CLOVIS ARP ++   Rob, AE6GE and his XYL Laura, KI6KRT, hosted a camping

trip to Little Basin in the Santa Cruz Mountains. While there,

portable operations on most HF bands during the NA QSO Party netted

some great contacts on a myriad of Antenna types. Fox hunts still on

the Calender as are the Public service events.   www.k6arp.org/

FRESNO ARC++   VP Ken, WA6OIB, presents a history of the now defunct

Silver Dollar Hofbrau as a weekly luncheon gathering since 1980. It

will be difficult to reconcile the memories nurtured at that venue.

Ken does his best to explain the fellowship and fraternity that brought

all of the Hams in the area, together. The next program will feature

Mike Stall, K6MYC of M Squared fame. Antennas will be the topic, 13

February. www.w6to.com.
